FIBA AMERICANS CHAMPIONSHIP 2013

The FIBA Americas Championship Basketball 2013 is the Men's Intercontinental Championship which will be the Qualifying tournament for the FIBA World Cup 2014. The tournament will be held in Caracas, Venezuela, from August 30 to September 11, 2013.

American Basketball Championship that takes place once in two years among national teams of the continents and is popularly denoted as The FIBA Americas Championship.



This championship, along with all other FIBA continental championships, will be played once every four years hence forth, commencing from 2017. Also, The Americas Championship is a qualifying tournament for the FIBA World Championships and the Olympic Games.

The tournament will take place in Caracas, Venezuela, from August 30 to September 11, 2013.The 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for Men is the qualifying competition for FIBA Americas at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. 

This tournament is played by 10 teamsdivided into two groups. The top four teams of each group will go to the second round, where the teams play against the four teams from the other group. Each team accumulate all the pointswon during the first round, except those points awarded for the match won against the team that was eventually eliminated. The best four teams of this group proceed to the semi-finals and become qualified for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Anibal Garcia, theFIBA Americas Sports Director led the draw  in the presence distinct guests including present national team head coaches Julio Lamas (Argentina) and Flor Melendez (Puerto Rico) and Jerome Mincy  of  former national team stars Oscar Torres of host nation Venezuela and Puerto Rico.Also, present were FIBA Americas President HoracioMuratore and Secretary General Alberto Garcia, along with the President of the Venezuelan Basketball Federation Carmelo Cortez, the President of the Dominican Basketball Federation Rafael Uribe and Venezuela's Minister for Sport Hector Rodriguez.

The two groups are:
Group A - Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Canada, Jamaica, Brazil.
Group B - Mexico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Paraguay, Argentina.
